Ever feel like aliens have taken over your body?
The storm-like surges of hormones during perimenopause can cause 38 different symptoms. 38 different symptoms! See, you're not crazy. You've heard other women warn you about the coming "change," but let's face it, there is only so much attention you can give to something that's going to happen "someday." And while the storm was gathering, your symptoms were annoying, but not unbearable. Besides, there is no cure for menopause. Women have been toughing it out since the beginning of time. Your mother probably only talked about in vague terms, if she talked about it at all.

This is not your mother's menopause.

Back in the day, women just suffered through the time leading up to menopause, just like they suffered through child-birth, and unequal treatment under law. There was little that could be done. But baby boomers changed all that. They demanded relief, and drug companies gave it to them.

Drug companies provided relief, but with a cost

Drugs were able to postpone the inevitable by replacing a woman's diminishing hormones with artificial ones made from horse urine. These artificial hormones gave immediate relief to millions of women, but then the inevitable happened.

The inevitable cost of pumping a woman's body full of chemicals.

There is always a cost. Even the best of drugs have unintended consequences. The cost of hormone replacement therapy is still being tallied, but many women don't want to take the risk in the first place. Does that mean we are back where we started, suffering through perimenopause? Umm... in one word, "No."

Living well through perimenopause.

Getting through perimenopause can be a lot like living through hurricane season. The recurring violent swings in hormone levels create an unstable situation throughout your entire body, including your brain! Because of the long-term unstable nature of perimenopause, you have to treat it differently than you would a simple bout of insomnia or exhaustion.

Long-term problems need long-term solutions.

Perimenopause is not a disease. It's a recurring imbalance. Because it's recurring, it cannot be treated successfully with a single intervention. What worked last week may not work today.

Ancient wisdom

5-element acupuncture is an entire system of understanding your physical, mental and emotional imbalances. The five elements represent different energies in the body. Its the balance of these five fundamental energies that keeps you healthy. When they are slightly out of balance you are vulnerable to upset, injury and illness, and when they are out of balance you are raging about lost glasses. When they are waaaaayy out of balance, symptoms take over and all your energy focuses on your illness. So how can a girl help herself?
